Introducing the Chiropractors of Gold Coast Chiropractic Centre
You've probably heard the saying, "Two heads are better than one." We've taken that to heart at Gold Coast Chiropractic Centre. With three chiropractors on staff, you get the benefit of extra brainpower. Especially with difficult cases.
Introducing Southport Chiropractor Dr. Brett Ireland
I never wanted to see a chiropractor and wouldn’t have gone if a friend hadn’t dragged me along. Little did I know it would change my life! I was studying to be an industrial engineer and had been plagued all my life by hay-fever and allergies. My friend told me to see a Chiropractor because it would cure my allergies. Well that didn’t make any sense to me, besides several specialists had told me the pollen in the air caused my allergies and all I could do was take anti-histamines...which I did.
The turning point was when I took too many anti-histamines and fell asleep in a finals exam at university.
So I went to visit the Chiropractor. I was interested when he said pollens don’t cause hayfever, “If they did we would all have allergies because we all breathe the same air with the same pollens. What causes hayfever is not the pollen, but for some reason your body can’t handle the pollen!”
Suddenly I realised that the problem may be inside of me rather than out of my control. To cut a long story short, I was a forceps delivery child and my first subluxation was probably caused during delivery. This caused my immune system to over-respond to certain stimuli. After 6 months of Chiropractic I was off anti-histamines for the first time in my life. Now, 30 years of chiropractic later, I haven’t had a single anti-histamine. I left engineering and went to America to become a chiropractor. I couldn’t understand why everyone didn’t know about the far reaching benefits of Chiropractic Care.
After 18 years of practice in New Zealand, my wife and I decided we wanted to live on the beautiful Gold Coast. We sold our practices and moved here in 2002. We bought Gold Coast Chiropractic Centre and with our three children have settled here permanently.
Living here in Southport allows me the ability to enjoy an outdoor lifestyle almost twelve months of the year. I run, play tennis with the kids, play golf and enjoy fishing and boating. My passion in practice is to help people take control of their own health. Pills, powders and potions do not provide true health. Chiropractic adjustments, healthy eating and regular exercise give us our best chance of fulfilling our individual health potential and living a long life.
I am excited at the possibility of seeing you and your family to see if we can be of some help. If you are less healthy than you should be then Chiropractic may have some exciting possibilities for you. Rest assured if we can help we will tell you but if we can’t we will tell you that too! Please call one of our helpful Southport staff today.

“I fell into Chiropractic by sheer Good Luck”
I remember I had just finished high school and had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. Around the same time a couple of friends of mine were heading overseas to study chiropractic. It sounded so exciting I decided I wanted to do that too.
“This has been the most rash and BEST decision I’ve ever made in my life.”
Without fully understanding what I was choosing as my life career, I took off to America.
Learning about Chiropractic and how it affects the body was amazing. The role and impact chiropractic has on the spine and nerve system to naturally help the body’s ability achieve a healthier life has been, and still is, a daily highlight for me.
Too many years ago to count, I graduated from one of the best chiropractic colleges in the States- Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic- and I headed home to New Zealand to share my knowledge with everyone I came in contact with.
Bringing up a family of 3 very active, healthy children has given me enormous experience and confidence in developing the skills, sensitivity and knowledge to build a family based practice. It certainly can be very challenging at times but that’s also what makes it so much fun. We all are so completely different but chiropractic helps everyone!!!!!!!
A few years ago I was given an opportunity to cross the ditch and join the team at Gold Coast Chiropractic Centre in Southport. I certainly didn’t need much encouragement from anyone to make this happen.
So...
Here I am... living, working and playing in the beautiful, sunny and most importantly WARM Gold Coast. Staying healthy, active and being outdoors is something I love doing, so in my spare time (which there never seems to be enough of when you are a mum) the gym, tennis, running and the beach keep me very busy.
Introducing Southport Chiropractor Dr. Peter Bertram
Up until becoming a chiropractor myself, I hadn’t seen any of the so-called “chiropractic miracles”. My experience had been that regular spinal adjustments keep your spine and nervous system working properly so you can be the healthiest you can be. It wasn’t until my mum was diagnosed with cancer that I really understood how chiropractic can assist the body to function better. Regular adjustments during this stressful time helped boost her energy, relieve her headaches and aid with her detoxifying from the chemotherapy. Even though mum did pass away in 2003, chiropractic care played a huge part in improving her quality of life and is a major influence as to why I am a chiropractor today.
As far as studies go, I completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science in Brisbane before heading to New Zealand for my chiropractic degree. It was a 5 year full time course at the New Zealand College of Chiropractic and was a wonderful place to study. I’d recommend it to anyone thinking of becoming a chiropractor. My intention was always to come home to Queensland to be closer to my family and was extremely fortunate to jump on board with Brett and Jose here at the Gold Coast Chiropractic Centre in Southport.
Some of the most wonderful things I hear in practice are people saying “this is the best I’ve felt in a long time” or “my health has never been this good”, which make for a fantastic environment to work in. I’d have to say that my highest goal is to take care of entire families. Seeing parents being healthy and choosing to be proactive both for them and also for their kids’ future is so great to see. Knowing that I’ve been a part of that is very fulfilling.
Away from the office I lead quite an active life. Sport and exercise take up a fair bit of my time, enjoying both indoor and outdoor cricket, and also the odd game of golf. I do try and get myself to the gym on a regular basis, although as my friends and family would tell you, I have to force myself as it’s not one of my passions. Because I am quite active I choose to get my spine checked once a fortnight to make sure everything is working well. However, on the odd occasion if I happen to be a bit rundown or get an injury, then I get adjusted more often until my body is back on track.
So if you or your family members happen to have a health concern or you simply want your spine and nervous system to be checked for any interference, please feel free to call our office in [SITECIYT] to make an appointment. It would be my pleasure to assist you and your family in achieving any or all of your health goals.
